How violation severity levels work

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Violation severity levels show how strictly each parking rule is enforced at your community. Use them to see at a glance how many warnings a rule allows before enforcement.

How it works

Each parking rule has one of three severity levels: Light, Moderate, or Severe. ParkingPass assigns the level automatically, based on how many warnings the rule allows before an enforcement action.

  • Severe: Enforcement happens on the first violation, with no warnings.

  • Moderate: One warning is issued before enforcement.

  • Light: Two or more warnings are issued before enforcement.

Enforcement actions can include a warning (Warning 1, Warning 2, Warning 3, and so on), a citation, a boot, or a tow. The severity level reflects how many warnings come before a citation, boot, or tow.

Your parking rules and enforcement structure were set during onboarding. If a rule's warning structure changes, its severity level updates automatically.

Where to find it

Open your community in ParkingPass and go to Parking Rules. Each rule shows its Violation Severity next to it.

What you can do with it

  • Review how each rule is enforced at your community.

  • To change a rule's warning structure, and with it the severity level, see Updating parking rules.

Important notes

  • Violation severity is informational and system-generated. It can't be edited directly.

  • Parking rules reflect the enforcement structure agreed on during onboarding.

  • Changes to parking rules go through support@parkingpass.com, because they may affect contractual agreements with ParkingPass and your patrol vendor.

  • For the most accurate enforcement details, review the full rule configuration.
