Permit expiration, grace period, and late fees

Last updated: November 3, 2026

When a permit expires without renewal, a 10-day grace period begins. If the resident doesn't renew within those 10 days, a 15% late fee is added automatically.

Residents get automated notifications about their permit expiration date in advance.

What's covered

  • Expiration reminders: Sent to residents before the permit end date.

  • Grace period: A 10-day grace period begins immediately after the permit expiration date (not the lease end date). For example, if a permit expires on 10/31, the grace period runs from 11/1 through 11/10.

  • Late fee: If renewal isn't completed within those 10 days, a 15% late fee is applied automatically.

  • No manual action: The grace period and late fee are system-generated and applied consistently across accounts.

  • Avoiding the fee: The resident needs to complete renewal before the grace period ends. Residents who renew within the 10-day grace period are not subject to violations during that window.

What isn't covered

  • Refunds aren't offered for unused days or for permits that are ended early.

  • Refund eligibility is limited and governed by the Refund policy.

How to request a change

Late-fee structure and grace-period timing are set during onboarding and may be tied to your community's agreement.

  • To request a change, email support@parkingpass.com.

State-specific rules

In certain states, currently including Florida, state-required sales tax is applied to permit purchases. The tax is calculated and shown at checkout, so residents don't need to add anything themselves. See Florida sales tax on parking permits.

Important notes

  • Patrol officers check for an active permit. Once the 10-day grace period ends without renewal, a lapsed permit may result in a violation, boot, or tow.

  • Encourage residents to turn on automatic recurring payments to avoid lapses. See Paying for a parking permit.

  • Use the Lease Status widget on your dashboard to spot expiring leases that may lead to lapsed permits. See Dashboard overview.

  • Watch for the Action Required badge on dashboard widgets for permits that need attention.
